Tchaikovsky was born into a wealthy Russian family.  His father wanted Peter to become a lawyer.  How lucky for us he became a composer instead!

Tchaikovsky wrote music during the Romanatic period.  By the time he died in 1893, Tchaikovsky wrote some of the most beautiful music ever composed.  These piece include the 1812 Overture, the Romeo and Juliet Overture, and concertos for violin and piano.  His ballet music includes The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker
